A shorter day with less climbing than day 3, but day 4 promises to be challenging for for a different reason. Nearly 80km into the stage, riders will summit the Cime de la Bonette – at 2,802m above sea level the highest point in Riding The Giants and the highest paved mountain pass in Europe ahead of Col d’Iseran and Passo dello Stelvio – offering views into Italy which at this point is fewer than 10km away.
The good news is that from the summit, there’s 25km of downhill through the Mercantour area of the southern Alps before a short climb up to the ski resort of Auron.
