Day 5: Auron – Nice

At first sight, day 5 may look like a beast but it isn’t – for several reasons. First, of the 181km of total distance about 110km of it is downhill and second, the plan is to re-group at the summit of Le Col de Vence after ~150km, celebrate the completion of the ride as a group before meandering down the final hill to Promenade des Anglais and the official finish line.

In the lead up to the end of the ride, today’s stage takes in some of the the most breath-taking riding experienced during the week; mountain-top rides with views of the Mediterranean Sea preceded by sweeping downhills through cliff-lined canyons accompanied by white-water rivers.

While the downhill-heavy route should push average speeds well above 20 km/h, this will still be a long day in the saddle, albeit a hugely rewarding and enjoyable one, so expect an early start!
